Scratching the Surface is a collection of essays and journalism by Adrian Shaughnessy, focusing mainly on graphic design. Essays include: ‘2012 Olympic logo ate my hamster’; ‘Vaughan Oliver – minotaurs in suburban England’; and ‘The myth of originality and the joy of copying’.
All I try to do is represent the music. This is a difficult thing to do. I’ve only got a small surface to work on, and I can’t really represent forty minutes of music. I don’t have duration. I only have a moment to represent the music. I have to use shorthand.
The legendary Storm Thorgerson passed away on April 19, 2013 after a lengthy battle with cancer.
